Short Description

The use of coded information in medical documentation and the associated data exchange continues to increase with the number of implementation guides. The creation of value sets takes over the central role in order to connect coded data elements (attributes in FHIR resources or fields in segments) from the static definitions with permitted codes from code systems.

This tutorial is divided into two parts, and is intended to explain the basics in dealing with code systems and value sets in the theoretical part. The emphasis is on the ValueSets with the different characteristics — particularly in the binding to the data elements. The practical part is then to explain the use in a technology and to specify this on the basis FHIR.

The learning objective is to gain an understanding of the use of value sets. In the tutorial, the following aspects are highlighted, partly with practical exercises:

Theory:

-various vocabularies (classifications, terminologies and ontologies).

-Versioning

-Building of value sets (Value Sets)

-Use Cases for Value Sets

-Properties of Value Sets

-Aspects of binding to data elements

Practice:

-Imaging in FHIR: CodeSystem, ValueSetProfile for ValueSets

-simple exercises
